Notes & Observations
11/9/22 – Prior to traveling to Cancun, I took note of Malecon Tajamar as a place in the city to visit for birding. During my visit, my goal was to see the Plain Chachalaca. Primarily because its name is so fun to say. I heard them at first and then got lucky to see one standing on the sidewalk. A few minutes later I heard a pretty birdcall from somewhere above. Merlin identified it as a Morelet’s Seedeater and I spotted it at the top of a tree. Perched on the highest bough, it sang its song. Apparently, this bird is known for perching at the very top of trees.
The only photo I have of this bird was taken with my phone through binoculars (known as digiscoping).
