This year, eBird encourages birdwatchers across the globe to step outside (or even stay in!) and spend a few minutes or the whole day observing and reporting the birds around them. It’s not just about the numbers (though it is for some!); it’s about connecting with nature and contributing to a global citizen science project that helps us understand bird populations better.

Last year was a record-breaker, with over 58,000 participants submitting more than 3.2 million bird observations.

Here’s how you can participate in Global Big Day 2024:

  1. Get an eBird account: It’s free, and it’s the platform that makes Global Big Day possible.
  2. Enjoy birds on May 11: Literally any wild birds you see outside. Just 10 minutes of birding counts!
  3. Enter your sightings in eBird: Use the website or the eBird Mobile app to submit your checklists by May 14.
  4. Watch the results: Follow live updates from over 200 countries on the Global Big Day page.

Do it for the birds! 🐦‍⬛
